The objective of the Gaming Control Department is to ensure that gambling is conducted in compliance with the Mpumalanga gambling legislation in an honest and fair manner. In addition, the Department seeks to enhance public confidence in legalised gambling establishments within the Province and to provide a secure environment for gambling that is fair and free from criminal influence.

The functions of the Gaming Control Department include:

  • Handling of patron disputes.
  • On-going evaluation of the casino surveillance systems for compliance.
  • Testing, approval and inspection of gambling equipment for technical compliance.
  • Investigation of cheating activities.
  • Review and approval of rules of games.
  • Keeping record of shipment or distribution of gambling equipment.
    Assisting with post-licensing investigations.
  • Liaison with other law enforcement agencies.
  • Monitor all gambling operations for regulatory compliance on a continuous basis.
  • Conduct investigations into all illegal gambling activities to ensure proper seizure and forfeiture of illegal gambling devices and successful prosecution of criminal elements, and
  • Eradicate any form of illegal gambling with the assistance of the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies.
